Product Information

For vehicles equipped with stock dual mass flywheel, for standard and SMG transmissions

Installation Note: You will need a 2-piece clutch alignment tool for the installation of a self-adjusting clutch. While the included tool may allow you to align the clutch disk, you won't be able to install the pressure plate with the shipping lock in place without the use of a 2-piece clutch alignment tool. We've recreated the Genuine BMW tool at a more affordable price for those who need it.

Your BMW's manual transmission transfers power from the crankshaft to the transmission via the clutch. Because of this, clutch discs, pressure plates, and throwout bearings can wear out with age. This OEM replacement kit from Sachs will restore you manual transmission's performance and functionality.

Transmission Clutch Kit

Clutch kits are made up of two main components, the clutch friction disc and the clutch pressure plate. Both of these components transfer torque from the flywheel to the transmission. There are several different types of manual transmission clutches in terms of operation but they all perform the same basic function.

Clutches are a pure wear item. In some cases you may have the option to replace a pressure plate or clutch disc separately but its always best to replace both at the same time along with other component such as the rear main seal, pilot bearing, release bearing, and shifter parts.

Transmission Clutch Kit Failure Symptoms
  • Slipping under acceleration
  • Engine revs freely but the vehicle does not accelerate
  • Difficulty shifting gears
  • Squeaking noises while the clutch pedal is pressed
  • Sticky or spongy clutch pedal feel when the clutch pedal is pressed
  • Burning smell from slipping clutch

About Sachs

ZF Sachs AG, also known as Fichtel & Sachs was founded in Schweinfurt in 1895 and was a well-known German family business. At its last point as an independent company, the company name was Fichtel & Sachs AG. In 1997, the automotive supplier was taken over by Mannesmann and renamed Mannesmann Sachs AG. As of 2001, Sachs belonged to ZF Friedrichshafen as a subsidiary company ZF Sachs AG. In 2011, ZF Sachs, like other Group subsidiaries, was legally merged with ZF Friedrichshafen AG and the independent business units integrated into the ZF divisions. Sachs has since become a brand of ZF Friedrichshafen AG.

Sachs is a trusted brand of the ZF family, which includes Lemforder, TRW, Boge, Stabilus, ZF parts and Sachs Performance. All divisions are well respected within their automotive specialty as they are all OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to car brands like Audi, Porsche, BMW, Volvo and more. Sachs specializes in shock absorbers, struts and clutches, with FCP Euro stocking many solutions based on your needs, be it an OE replacement or a higher performance clutch, shock or strut. All Sachs parts are built to meet or exceed the OEM specifications, this provides confidence and value when choosing Sachs over a Genuine part.

BMW Clutch Kit (M3 E46)
Another great OE part at a fraction of the cost of the BMW labelled part. Installed and working great.

Made the right call
15,000 miles on this new clutch and absolutely zero issues. I did a full clutch job (clutch disk, flywheel, t/o bearings, etc.) and being as I don't plan on ever having to do that job again I went with Sachs. Install went perfect. 5/5

Questions & Answers

Ask a question
Question Posted by Manuel
Does the kit come with pilot bearing, throw out bearing and flywheel bolts? Also, my car originally came with SMG, but has been converted to manual. Will this kit fit?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
E46 M3's use the same clutch regardless of whether it's an SMG or manual. This clutch kit only comes with the pressure plate, clutch disc, and release bearing. Flywheel bolts (x8 11222243051), pressure plate bolts (x6 21207548052), and pilot bearing (x1 11211720310) are separate.
Question Posted by Kwang
Dose it include a special alignment tool shown in the pictures?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
An alignment tool is included with the kit. However, the tool that is included by Sachs is not the best one to use. We suggest using special tool CT1012 for aligning clutch disc and installing pressure plate as it has a removable handle allowing for clearance on the pressure plate.
