Brake pad wear sensors are used to monitor the thickness of your vehicle's brake pad friction lining. When the minimum safe thickness is reached the pad wear sensor comes into contact with the brake rotor and opens the circuit which in turn triggers a warning on your instrument cluster notifying you that it is time to service your brakes. Whether or not the pad wear sensor has been triggered it is highly recommended to replace the pad wear sensor when replacing brake pads. They tend to become fragile with age and can easily break when removed from old brake pads causing false warnings after completing the service,
WARNING: Proposition 65 informationDisc Brake Pad Wear Sensors, or Brake Pad Sensor, as they're commonly called, are used as an instrument to alert the driver when the brake pads of the vehicle are at a low level and are in need of replacement. Operation of the sensor is simple where it is wired to the brake control module with 12v and when the brake pad becomes low enough, the sensor will ultimately surface and make contact with the rotor which in turn grounds the sensor and completes the circuit which triggers the light in your instrument cluster. The Brake Pad Wear Sensor is recommended to be replaced at the time of brake pad replacement.

Seriously. I was going to be charged $100 just in labor to replace this. Took 5 minutes and no tools. Perfect fit. Exact replacement.
If budget isnt an issue for you then definitely replace these (front and back) when you put in new pads. you dont want to cheap out and try to re-use the old ones, chances are they're somewhat seized onto the old pads and you'll destroy them trying to remove them; then you'll have to leave the car on jackstands while waiting for these to get shipped, or have to jack up the car and remove the wheel again when these get delivered. Just replace them, will need one front and one back.
Replaced pads, and ordered these sensors as well. No problems. They fit exactly as the original.
Remember kids, if it doesn't go in easily you're probably pushing it in the wrong way
