Product Information

It's time for a brake service if your BMW's steering wheel shakes while braking or the light is illuminated on your dash indicating your bake pads are too thin. There are numerous critical parts of your BMW's brake system. The two main wear items are the brake pads and the brake rotors. By their very nature they are intended to wear out.

Brake rotors can wear out in several ways. The most common reason for replacing brake rotors is because they are "warped". Warped brake rotors is another way of saying that there are uneven deposits on the rotor surface from the brake pads. This can cause the steering wheel to shimmy while braking. Rotors can be machined to remove the deposits but this is usually counterproductive and it's often safer and easier to just replace the rotors. One brake rotors reach their minimum specified thickness they must be replaced.

Brake pads are the friction material that allow for braking to begin with. They are softer than the brake rotor surface and tend to wear quicker. The brake pad wear sensor attached to the brake rotor will be tripped when the pad becomes too thin and illuminate a light on your dash letting you know that a brake service is required.

I bought this kit along with e-brake shoes and springs to rebuild the rear brakes on my E90 328i X-Drive. The parts are high quality, perfect fit and priced right.

Akebono Pads Are Small
The Akebono pads are smaller than they should be, so when you brake and change to forward or backward gears, they will make a clunk sound as they wiggle in the caliper. Mechanic said it wasn't dangerous, but I thought I had a bad strut mount or link somewhere. Thankfully I did not. It takes getting used to the clunk, but if you aren't reversing a lot, you won't here it. Otherwise the brake pads are good and have low dust. Low initial bite and soft luxurious pedal feel, but do not fret...these will stop you as good as OEM. They do squeal on moist or cold mornings until you get the pads warm. The rotors are great and look brand new after a year. Zimmermann and Akebono have never let me down on other cars and lasted more than 50,000 miles.

Good stuff!
Bought fronts and rears. Akebono never failed me. After going through 3 sets in three cars, they are dust free, soft bite, and rarely make noise after warm up or drying up. Zimmermann are really good and much more premium for the price point. After rain or leaving it out for days, there is no sign of rust. The coating is really effective. Buy these for low maintenance and keeping the wheels looking fresh. Other brands might be cheaper, but lack the coating needed to keep these rotors looking new after years on the road. These are a solid combination. If you want more bite and the "feel" of more stopping power, might want to go with semi metallic. These are GREAT for daily drivers and spirited driving. Nice on BMW, but less bite than OEM for smooth consistent stops.

incomplete kit
I ordered this kit because I trusted Zimmermann and Akebono to supply quality parts, which they do. But I am disappointed that the Akebono pads didn't include the brake mounting hardware that other pads do and that the Zimmermann rotor didn't include a new mounting screw. I'd like to see FCP mention the additional parts needed to fully complete the job along with a link to purchase them.

Good kit
I used this kit to replace my rear brakes on my 328xi, quiet, solid brakes. Plenty of pad left after 1 year and 25,000 miles!

Easy, breezy, beautiful, FCP
Kit came with everything required to do a brake rotor/pad change - a friend and I took 2 hours on a Friday afternoon to finish the job Huge fan of FCP's site - quick search, convenient kits, good prices, and the insane lifetime warranty that is a true commitment to one's business model.
