It's time for a brake service if your BMW's steering wheel shakes while braking or the light is illuminated on your dash indicating your bake pads are too thin. There are numerous critical parts of your BMW's brake system. The two main wear items are the brake pads and the brake rotors. By their very nature they are intended to wear out.

Brake rotors can wear out in several ways. The most common reason for replacing brake rotors is because they are "warped". Warped brake rotors is another way of saying that there are uneven deposits on the rotor surface from the brake pads. This can cause the steering wheel to shimmy while braking. Rotors can be machined to remove the deposits but this is usually counterproductive and it's often safer and easier to just replace the rotors. One brake rotors reach their minimum specified thickness they must be replaced.

Brake pads are the friction material that allow for braking to begin with. They are softer than the brake rotor surface and tend to wear quicker. The brake pad wear sensor attached to the brake rotor will be tripped when the pad becomes too thin and illuminate a light on your dash letting you know that a brake service is required.

Zimmermann/Akebono Brake Kit for 2011 BMW E90
Service was excellent, and fast. Parts were as described. Only issue was some spots on the surface of one of the rotors resulting in a slight noise upon braking; that cleared up in a day or two. Brakes work better than the stock ones.

E93 Complete Brake Service Kit
This kit is totally complete with ALL parts necessary to replace wear items in your braking system. The rotors have a coating on them which takes a few miles of pad contact to completely remove so be aware that they will sound like they have sand on them during this period. Everything fits perfectly and returns original performance back to your brakes. Very much recommended!

Stops on a DIME!
I had recently bought my 335i used. The dealership that I bought the car from told me that they had "replaced" the brakes and rotors. The rotors were full of surface rust and the brakes were average. I was looking for something that would give me great stopping power and also a refreshed look with clean looking rotors. The great thing about these Zimmermann rotors is that they come pre-painted in order to avoid any rust buildup in the future and always leave the rotors looking very clean after driving. A problem that I had with my prior set of brakes and rotors was that under heavy braking the car and steering wheel would shake as a product of warped rotors. This set of brakes and rotors from FCP cleared up the problem entirely. THANK YOU! Plus, if your are an avid DIY person like myself, this kit literally comes with everything you need to replace: pads, rotors, sensors, anti-squeal paste, and necessary brackets for the sensors. It was a perfect fit for my bimmer. 5/5
