It's hard to think that your CV axle is actually a complicated piece of equipment. When you think about it, a CV axle needs to be able to adapt to a wide range of motion between suspension movements and steering inputs while still transmitting power to the wheel. Over thousands of miles, various road and weather conditions, and time, axle boots can tear or simply stretch and wear. If a tear occurs in a boot, the grease will leak out, allowing water and dirt to get into the joint. If caught soon enough, you can reboot the axle. However, if it is ignored, an axle replacement will be needed. This is usually indicated by drive train vibrations under acceleration and clicking coming from the CV joints.
GKN Loebro is an OEM supplier to BMW for axle shaft and CV assemblies. This completely new unit will restore drivetrain function to your BMW.
Note: Recent changes from GKN indicate that this axle may or may not include the axle nut, which will need to be replaced when installing this new assembly. It is recommended that you purchase the axle nut separately in case the GKN axle you receive does not include one. You can find the axle nut here. We also recommend replacing the axle shaft seal to prevent leaks.
The CV (Constant Velocity) axle assembly is responsible for transferring torque and rotational power from the transmission to the wheels while allowing for suspension movement and steering articulation. The CV axle consists of a shaft with joints at both ends: a CV joint that connects the axle to the transmission and another CV joint that connects the axle to the wheel hub. This design allows the axle to handle changes in angle and length as the vehicle moves, especially when turning or going over bumps.
CV Axle Assembly Failure Symptoms- Clicking or Popping Noises: One of the most common signs of a failing CV axle is a clicking or popping noise when turning the vehicle. This noise typically occurs when the CV joint is damaged or worn out, especially during sharp turns.
- Vibration While Driving: A failing CV axle can cause noticeable vibrations while driving, especially at higher speeds. This vibration may indicate that the axle is bent, or damaged, or that the CV joints are worn out.
- Grease Leaks: If the CV axle boot tears or cracks, grease can leak out. You may notice grease on the inside of the wheel or around the CV joint. This can lead to increased wear on the joint due to a lack of lubrication.

great qualioty went in my 2008 bmw 335xi and it was a ripper held up great the qualoity was amazing
2011 328I xdrive 6spd manual. I have this cv installed on my driver side. It is a very easy install, having new threads and new axle nut ( which comes with the cv) is a blessing. To top it all off i bought the CTA 5056 tool.
Put about 1000 miles on this CV axle. So far so good, no leaks. Do not cheap out on CV axles as many aftermarket ones have spline/spline clip clearance issues. This one popped into the differential quite easily by hand. When installing the CV axle through the hub, do not hammer the hub onto the CV axle as the force of the blow will be transferred to the differential. I used 2 inches of wood and a large dead blow hammer. Once you get the nut on 2-3 threads, you can hand tighten the rest of the way and properly torque it after. No Leaks, noise, or issues. Be sure to get the differential gasket and a new OEM axle nut. The provided axle nut is smaller.

If you own a BMW, you'll find there are no shortcuts when it comes to replacing parts. The price may seem high, but you'll end up spending more in cheaper aftermarket axles if you don't buy this or OEM/ Genuine. (Trust me from my OWN personal experience) I've had this in for 3 months now and it's still solid and will continue to be. Don't cheap out on parts!

Hi.
Would you please measure the diameter of the seal surface of this shaft please?
I’d like to to compare it to the shaft on my car that may need to be replaced since new seal didn’t fix a seepage of the differential fluid from the left front axle.

The sealing surface on this axle shaft is ~ 44mm
