Replaced your E83 X3's front tension struts which are a common failure point of the front suspension

This basic 4-piece control arm kit is designed to make replacing your X3's tension struts a little easier. The tension struts play a key role in maintaining your BMW's suspension geometry. Worn inner bushings can have a severe negative effect on handling and alignment. Additionally, worn outer ball joints can develop play over time causing another common point of suspension play which has an adverse effect on handling and alignment.

This kit has been designed around OEM Lemforder parts which are the same parts that BMW uses to build and service your BMW. These parts are identical to the parts you will be replacing on your X3. Just look for the little owl logo on the existing parts.

Suspension Control Arm Kit

Control arms are crucial link in a vehicle's suspension connecting the suspension to a vehicle's subframe. These pieces are usually hinged to allow for suspension to travel and articulate as the vehicle rides over obstructions in the road and while the vehicle turns. Many vehicles such as those with independent suspensions have multiple links and feature several connection points and arms to offer better ride quality and comfort.

As bushings and joints in a control arm begin to wear you may notice a looseness feel in your suspension. And while many arms have replaceable and serviceable individual components, many still require the replacement of the entire arm. Below are signs of when a replacement control arm may be needed.

  • Play in suspension joints where these arms meet the subframe and/or knuckle
  • Buckling noise emanating from the suspension
  • Uneven tire wear
  • Inability to properly align vehicle
  • Shutter or vibration coming from the steering wheel at highway speed

Unfortunately we are getting these from different sources at this time and they are secondary or tertiary vendors, not ZF directly as they do not have them available at this time, when not purchased directly we tend to incur a much higher cost and in turn a sale price.

I was told my 05 BMW E83 X3 needs lower ball joint. Is this the lower control arm with ball joint?

Both lower control arms use ball joints so it would depend on which control arm/ball joint is worn out.
