General purpose indoor/outdoor RTV

General-purpose, black RTV indoor/outdoor sealant. Seals, bonds, repairs, mends and secures glass, metal, plastics, fabric, vinyl, weather stripping and vinyl tops. Protects and repairs electrical wiring. May be applied to horizontal or vertical surfaces.Waterproof and flexible. Temperature range -75°F to 450°F (-59°C to 232°C); resists water, weather, and vibration.

About Permatex

Permatex was founded in 1909 by Constant A. Benoit Sr. when he developed the first Permatex product which was a shellac designed to bond bicycle tires to their rims. Shortly after that in 1915, Constant attended a 24 hour endurance race in which he observed that very frequently drivers were having to return to the pit area due to blown headgaskets. Quickly Benoit saw an opportunity to apply some of his experimental gasket compound to a vehicle in which it then ran the rest of the 24 hour race without any issues! The rest is history. Today the company is partnered with ITW (Illinois Tool Company) and has recently celebrated their 100 year anniversary in 2009. The company is known for excellence with over 350 products, and produces nearly 1,200 SKUs in several markets to include automotive, marine, heavy duty, and off highway.

Perfect for door seal
The seal on my frameless door broke and it was letting in massive amounts of water during a car wash or with direct water pressure. I used this in the crack to bond the rubber mold back together and a little bit on top just to give it an extra layer and it's holding like a champ. A new door seal is $600+ so this saved me a ton of money.

Can this be used to adhere new mirror glass to a heated side mirror backing?

Use it only if the glass has separated from the backing (not if tabs or heating are damaged). Apply a thin bead, avoid the electrical contacts, and let it fully cure before use. Replacing the full mirror glass is the more reliable fix.
