Audi VW 2.0T FSI High Pressure Fuel Pump

The high pressure fuel pump is responsible for pressurizing the fuel that was sent from your gas tank to the fuel rail. Overtime, the high pressure fuel pump becomes weak which will cause your vehicle to run lean and will turn the check engine light on. Below is a diagram of the Audi/VW 2.0T FSI high pressure fuel system.

When replacing this high pressure fuel pump you should replace the Cam Follower which is known for failing and causing damage to camshafts.

Direct Injection High Pressure Fuel Pump

A direct injection high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) is a critical component in modern gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines. Unlike traditional fuel pumps, it boosts fuel pressure to extremely high levels (often over 2,000 psi) so fuel can be directly injected into the combustion chamber. This enables better fuel atomization, improved efficiency, and higher power output. The HPFP is typically driven by the camshaft and works in tandem with a low-pressure fuel pump. Over time, wear, contamination, or internal failure can lead to drivability issues.

Direct Injection High Pressure Fuel Pump Failure Symptoms
  • Engine performance problems – hard starting, hesitation, misfires, or loss of power under load.
  • Fuel-related issues – check engine light, lean/rich codes, or reduced fuel economy.
  • Noises or leaks – ticking/whining sounds from the pump or visible fuel leakage at the pump area.

Fuel pump
This is a great part! Fits perfectly however if you have the ole style low pressure fitting with the banjo bolt, get a new bolt and brass seat for the pump. It is kicking out 67 Barr and my A4 has never run so well!!
