One of the first models presented in the W 201 series is the Mercedes Benz 190E. This vehicle became wildly popular and went on to serve as an excellent example of what the future would hold for Mercedes. The 190E was born in 1982, reconditioned in 83-84 and came equipped with a four cylinder engine. It received a visual upgrade with the release of the 1984 190E 2.3-16 in the form of a wing type spoiler at the rear of the vehicle. The valve additions made to the engine ( 2 intake and 2 exhaust ) boosted the horse power from 136 to 185, allowing the new 190E model to top out at a high speed of just under 143 miles per hour.
