Inspect steering components on your Audi regularly for signs of wear. Torn or cracked rubber found on bellows, tie rods or steering racks should be replaced. Also inspect power steering hoses that are subject to deterioration as the rubber begins to breakdown. Your Audi should have 3 main power steering hoses including a main pressure hose, suction hose and return hose. While checking these hoses take the time to inspect the power steering pump for signs of leaks.
A power steering pump is one of the key components needed for power steering. The hydraulic power for the steering is provided by a rotary vane pump. The pump is driven by the car's engine via a belt and pulley. The vanes within the power steering pump pull hydraulic fluid from the return line at low pressure and force it into the outlet at high pressure.
