When your foot pushes on the clutch pedal, it transfers hydraulic fluid through the master cylinder, through the lines to the clutch slave cylinder to engage the clutch. A soft clutch pedal may mean you need a new clutch master cylinder, but first be sure your fluid is full and check for leaks throughout the system.
