About Audi A6

An Audi A6 is known as a mid-sized luxury car with production starting on the C4 platform with four generations in total including C4, C5, C6 and C7. The Audi A6 is the successor to the Audi 5000 with the regular A6 being front wheel drive and the Quattro all-wheel drive. The C4 platform ranges in model year from 1994 to 1997, and differs slightly in looks compared to the Audi 5000.The Audi C5 chassis is the second generation of the Audi A6 and competed closely with the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class. The all new design and feel of the Audi A6 was higher quality with the A6 on Car and Driver’s 10 best list for 2000 and 2001. This vehicle was most commonly equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission but there was also a manual transmission available as well.Released in 2004 the Audi C6 chassis featured a host of technology moving up along the ranks of the luxury car brands. The addition of the MMI was one of the main technology features worked into the third generation Audi A6. MMI controls the in-car entertainment, satellite navigation, climate control and suspension settings to name a few. The Audi Allroad was released for 2006 which was basically an off-road version of the Avant. The power plants in the A6 included a 2.7 liter V6, 3.0 liter V6 diesel and a 4.2 liter V8 engine.In the US a fourth generation of the Audi A6 was available for the 2012 model year using many features from the Audi A8 flagship model along with interior and powertrain platform from the Audi A7. The North American models received a 2.0T 4-cylinder and 3.0 liter V6 supercharged engine as available options with integration of an 8-speed automatic transmission. Technology was further enhanced for 2012 with more features available including lane assist, driver assist, heads up display, adaptive lights and headlight range control.
