About Audi 4000 Quattro
In 1984 the Audi 4000S Quattro was added to the lineup in the US with the key features being the all-wheel drive system, lockable differential and 5-cylinder engine. The Audi 4000 was first released in the US in 1980 to replace the Audi Fox. The early model Audi 4000 came with a 1.6 liter 4-cylinder with 4-speed manual transmission. The Audi 4000 quattro year range spans from 1984 to 1987, this is for the Quattro model only. The Audi 4000 quattro has lockable open differentials in the center and rear of the vehicle. This means the Audi 4000 quattro had a spider gear differential with the drive system being all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive with the differentials in the lock position. A 4000 quattro falls under the B2 platform and has the same exterior styling as an Audi 80 but named the Audi 4000 for the US market. The designer of this body style was Giorgetto Giugiaro, the 4000 went by Audi 5+5 and Audi Quattro in other countries.
