Regularly inspecting and replacing the hardware on critical portions of your vehicle's suspension, engine, and brake components is important for safety and stability, as well as maintaining the serviceability of your vehicle's common wear systems.

In certain applications on many European makes and models, bolts will be torque to yield and are specifically called out to be replaced once removed and not reused. When replacing a component, it's important to refer to the factory service procedures to determine an application fastener type, grade, installation torque values, and replacement recommendations

Bolt Failure Symptoms
  • Failure: Damaged hardware can fail under pressure, which can lead to engine damage, suspension component failure, and added wear
  • Corrosion and rust: Over time, nuts and bolts can corrode or rust, which weakens them and increases the chance of failure
  • Fatigue: Fasteners can fatigue due to exposure to debris, corrosion, water, and other contaminants. This fatigue can be caused by cyclic stress due to loss of initial pre-load
