Product Information

The timing belt tensioner is a very crucial part of your engine. The timing belt is responsible for syncing the bottom half of your engine to the top half and essentially keeping it in time. The timing belt tensioner keeps constant tension on the belt and should it fail, would cause the engine to fall out of sync resulting in catastrophic damage. It is always recommended to replace the timing belt tensioner when servicing the timing belt. Additionally, during routine servicing of the vehicles, it's not a bad idea to visually inspect the tensioner for wear such as grease extruding from the bearing and/or the tensioner being saturated in a fluid such as engine oil from an external engine oil leak.

Timing belt tensioners are typically replaced at the same time as replacing your timing belt. The tensioner exists to provide the proper tension against the timing belt and the components it revolves around. Tensioners are available in both mechanical and hydraulic variations.

Poor quality
Bought one of these for my 2011 tdi and haven't had an issue (do not know country of origin). Bought another to do the timing on my wifes 2014 tdi and less than 2 months later the tensioner is shot. Did some reading about ina tensioners and some come from Canada (good oem quality) and some come from other manufacturers. My tensioner is from Slovakia so obviously if they come from there they are not good quality. Buyer beware! This could have resulted in a head/valves or worse a complete engine had it come apart completely

Timing Belt Tensioner Broke- Junk
Use caution when selecting your parts, I would not buy the INA brand tensioners item broke went applying the timing belt pre-load. stopped the job in its tracks caused a lot more work and now i have to pay $16 to ship the item back. This sucks bad deal all around
