How Can I Determine If I Have a TRW, ZF, or Cam Gear Rack?

You can determine what type of Rack & Pinon was originally installed on the car by locating a service plate found on the Trunk frame or Door pillar. It will list many different components, with one being the "Steering Gear". On this plate, to the right of the words steering gear you will see a number - 2/3/4/5. The numbers 2, 4, or 5 designates a Cam Gear rack was used, number 3 designates a ZF rack was used.

Steering Tie Rod End

The tie rods of your vehicle play a critical role as they're the link between the power steering rack and pinion and the wheel spindle. Tie rod ends contain ball joints that tend to wear out over time due to constant wear and tear. When the ball joints within the tie rod wear out, it allows for play within the wheels which can throw off your alignment and cause uneven tire wear. Its always encouraged to check your tie rod ends for play as well as tires for uneven wear at every service interval. When replacing worn tie rod ends its always recommend to replace them in pairs as well as to perform an alignment.

1990 Volvo 740 GLE Wagon Tie Rod
Be careful. My CAM rack has 18mm threads on it. This Tie Rod has 16mm threads and does not fit my car. Before ordering, remove your old Tie Rod from the rack and measure the diameter across the threads. Confirm if yours is a 16mm thread vs a 18mm thread. FCP is a great company and my first go-to for my Volvo parts, but this Tie Rod does not match my car. Check yours before ordering.
