Steering Tie Rod End

The tie rods of your vehicle play a critical role as they're the link between the power steering rack and pinion and the wheel spindle. Tie rod ends contain ball joints that tend to wear out over time due to constant wear and tear. When the ball joints within the tie rod wear out, it allows for play within the wheels which can throw off your alignment and cause uneven tire wear. Its always encouraged to check your tie rod ends for play as well as tires for uneven wear at every service interval. When replacing worn tie rod ends its always recommend to replace them in pairs as well as to perform an alignment.

I replaced both sides with Meyle out tie rod ends, everything I usually go factory Volvo but Meyle makes really good parts so we gave them a shot since FCP offers a lifetime warranty on all the parts they sell.

Replacing the old inner and outer tie rods with the Meyle pieces tightened up the steering considerably. Old tie rods were quite loose and floppy, new units were well machined and easy to fit, especially using the universal inner tie rod tool from FCP as well.

Installed these on MY05 XC70 and they did not allow toe to be brought into spec when aligned, causing toe-in. The car would track straight when driven, but my tires did make more noise. Removed them and held the Meyle next to Lemforder tie rod and it is slightly noticeable that the ball joint on the Meyle is set further out then the Lemforder by about 2mm. With Lemforder installed I was able to achieve perfect alignment. Both times I had brought it to my local volvo dealership for alignment, as well I had ruled out that it was the inner as I have OE inner. Although I've had this issue, I did drive with them for 10000km in Toronto where I have to parallel park multiple times a day and at home. When removed, the ball joint was as tight as when it was first installed. I do think it is a quality product, too bad for the fitment issue.

Quality feel
These tie rod ends seem like a quality part, time will tell on longevity. They are made in Turkey. They are a bit longer than the stock tie rod end so when installed using conventional methods the alingment will be way off. I installed both sides the same number of turns onto the inner tie rods as the originals and the alignment was toe in by 2.5"! With some simple adjustment I got to within 0.25" to get to the alignment shop to get it dialed in.
