If your P1 Volvo has an issue with 'return to center' after a turn, look to the inner tie rods. This inner tie rod replacement seemingly added many degrees of positive caster 'feel' to my S40. Test your inner tie rods by shaking the tire/wheel at the 9:00 and 3:00 o clock position to check for play. With one wheel on the ground and one in the air, there should be little to know movement. If you hear a click farther in, towards the rack, chances are, it's the inner tie rod. After 112,000 miles and 10 autocross events, mine were in rough shape. Don't confuse this with lower control arm symptoms, although the ball joint can cause similar problems, like steering that binds and fails to return to center on its own. BE SURE to get a good tool to remove these. My factory inners were nearly round. I purchased a Mayhew inner tie rod tool, roughly $100.00. Although a master inner tie rod/crowsfoot set can be rented from an autoparts store. Just be careful and plan your tool purchases in advance so an OE round style inner tie rod doesn't leave you stranded. That's why I went for the $100.00 tool. FCP, you should offer this tool. Saved me loads of time and lots of headache. All in all, excellent quality part. Highly recommended. Replace Outers at the same time as inners, and have a torch/cutting wheel ready in case the inner binds to the outer...
