About Genuine Volvo

The original parts used by Volvo to build your car are available as replacement parts under the “Genuine Volvo” brand. Manufactured under the direction of Volvo, expect excellent quality and a premium price since these parts are exclusively available through the Volvo Dealership network.

You may not realize this, but the parts that make up your Volvo are not necessarily manufactured by Volvo. No cause for concern, as Volvo designs the part, hires a manufacturer, and ensures its quality to you. In fact, many of these manufacturers have been making parts for Volvo for decades. In our industry these manufacturers are called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and these are often brands you recognize, including Lemforder, ZF, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Zimmermann, Siemens VDO, Corteco, and more. Don’t be surprised to open that Genuine Volvo parts box and find an OEM branded part inside, simply with the addition of a Volvo logo.

Be sure to keep an eye out for OE tags on our product pages to quickly identify parts coming direct from OE manufacturers. That extra bit of insight could save you some serious money while shopping! Refer to our OE Academy for further information regarding the OE/OEM tags throughout the site.

It was worth the effort!
This was changed out on a P3 chassis 2016 XC60 T6 Platinum with 205K miles when the original decided it was playing jackpot multi-ball pinball. I believe the seals on the whole assembly were disturbed when we had a minor to middling front end accident about 50K miles ago so that it became more of a T5, however I discovered some screws around the resonator had backed out some and the check valve (to "PCV') on the black air box was no longer checking. I like this car, had upgraded the suspension, we cover a lot of miles and are hard on interiors during road trips, so I felt I would try to keep it going for another two years/50K - we bought this CPO used. Did not want to buy another car, especially at current prices. Was certainly worthwhile to replace - well it seems that way after 1 week/500 miles - and gave me a learning experience in further ratcheting. After 100-200 miles (adaptation?) it became smooth, regained power at low rpms, transmission shifts great. It seems expensive, but really it is the same price as replacing tires, an alignment, and a general service. Notes: There are differences for this job compared to the excellent FCP video as below. 1) The P3 XC60 false firewall and its fabric (I recommend separating first) are a pain in the ass to remove and replace compared to the newer models, largely because it has a sculpted shape and the fabric is well umm fabric/gritty/dusty - give yourself some time and patience to lower the engine as far as you can (with only the passenger side upper mount removed) and feed the fabric above, go below to pull, go above, then below, lots of wiggling. It is by far the most difficult part of the process if you are using a jack and stands. 2) I initially thought that my kit was missing some gaskets, but a head count of what was needed told me it was right. Ignore the photo on the product page. There are only six needed - two metal and four soft - just one of the square ones and three round. An extra might be needed see below. This SC assembly evidently has fewer leak opportunities. 3) The Volvo tool - it did not help me to remove the SC from the block it was stuck, but it did help install it. That being said, use an allen because the only real use for this tool was for lobotomies 100 years ago. 4) Dielectric grease will help for sure as per FCP video. It also helped when plopping the assembly back into the Turbo intake tube, it just slid in with minimal lube. 5) About the turbo intake tube, there is a small black tube that connects the "Volvo Supercharger Intake Manifold - Genuine Volvo 31686274" to the turbo inlet, I think it is this "Volvo Air Intake Turbo Resonator Charge Pipe - Genuine Volvo 31422097" with a green o-ring on one end and a black one on the other. The black o-ring is not included in the kit. I suggest ordering this. I ended up just cleaning and reconditioning the existing o-ring because it was still excellent and applied a little grease to it. 6) Working alone, I found the best way for me to install the new assembly was by standing on a footstool by the passenger side strut tower, holding the SC assembly out across where it should go, and aiming for the two holes on the bracket next where the serpentine belt goes. Those two holes have locator bands in them which help you place it (i.e. if you did remove that small bracket, put it back first before the SC). If you get it to those two holes with locator bands, lock it in while letting the SC assembly lower on the driver side, the rest of it will plop into the turbo hole and be fixed in three places (on the locator bands and turbo hole). Then move to the driver side and push it in towards the engine wall (it will only be a small distance), and snug it down using the Volvo lobotomy tool or an allen, the rest will be easy. 7) Do not try to remove the hose from this part because nozzle may break, if you do break it, 5 min epoxy works well while waiting on the part, fold it out of the way like in the FCP video: Volvo Turbocharger Wastegate Vacuum Reservoir - Genuine Volvo 31480478 8) Recommended parts: Volvo Supercharger Replacement Kit - Genuine Volvo 36010125KT1 Volvo Engine Air Intake Turbo Resonator - Genuine Volvo 31411806 [I did not get this but discovered a captive nut that turned during disassembly/assembly, I sorted it but it is a safe buy that will save you time if you have the same problem] Volvo Engine Air Distribution Duct - Genuine Volvo 31439479 Optional but high mileage recommended (mine leaked at the back a little for some time, and broke while unclipping for timing/accessory replacement): Volvo Turbocharger Coolant Line - Genuine Volvo 32222279 Optional preventative I did anyway: Volvo Engine Coolant Bleed Hose - Genuine Volvo 31368752 I have no idea if this is reliable or not, I did not replace, I cleaned it in the same way a throttle body would be: Volvo Supercharger Intake Manifold - Genuine Volvo 31686274
