The fly wheel on my original starter was screeching whenever I starting the car, an '05 S40 T5. The dealer noticed it first and recommended it be swapped out, however they know me well enough to know that I wouldn't bother to overspend to have them replace it. This unit was a great lower-cost option, and the difference between the old and new starter is quite noticeable. Not only does the car start with less audible protest, but it has a lot more "oomph" behind it. Mechanic who did the unit swap did say he had some trouble with it, but then they're not Volvo specialists (they do fine work, however!). Highly recommend this product.
