Product Information

This power steering pump has been updated by Volvo to a new design. The design removes the separate 'remote' power steering reservoir and integrates it into the pump directly. If you have a separate power steering reservoir with a hose leading down to the pump, those parts will be removed when installing this new integrated unit.

Please note, if you have the remote style and are updating to the new pump, a separate wiring harness is required. The part number for the harness is VOL-30775461.

Power Steering Pump

Power steering pumps pressurize the fluid in the steering hydraulic system to allow for steering assist at slow road speeds. The power steering system is powered by the engine via a serpentine or v belt which spins the pump pulley. Power steering pumps are generally a lifetime component.

However, poor power steering system maintenance, old power steering fluid, and incorrect power steering fluid can cause the pump to fail prematurely. If your power steering pump is screaming or chirping when you are turning the wheels you may need to replace it.

Power Steering Pump Failure Symptoms

  • Squeaking or squealing sounds
  • Heavy steering feel at slower road speeds
  • Whining noise when turning the steering wheel
