Power Steering Pump

Power steering pumps pressurize the fluid in the steering hydraulic system to allow for steering assist at slow road speeds. The power steering system is powered by the engine via a serpentine or v belt which spins the pump pulley. Power steering pumps are generally a lifetime component.

However, poor power steering system maintenance, old power steering fluid, and incorrect power steering fluid can cause the pump to fail prematurely. If your power steering pump is screaming or chirping when you are turning the wheels you may need to replace it.

Seems well made- but specs are off for 92 resevoir
The pump seems well made, threads are all decent. My 92 245 has the resevoir mounted on top of the pump. Issues: -Reservoir cannot depress the 2-3mm into the opening which is putting an insane amount of spring tension on the clips that hold its base. While i was able to get one side on with my hands, i had to use vice grips to pull the other side down and attach. Now I am impressed how good this resevoir looks after 30 years, but only time will tell what this extra pressure will do to the plastic. I suspect there is now a lot of pressure being placed on the main feed nipple...might need to switch to an offboard resevoir if this eventually cracks -The spring clips on the 92 resevoid base have push in tabs to lock them in place once they are inserted. With this design, there is too much material between the bolt hole lugs. Rather than hitting the spring clip so the face wedges against the bolt lug, i had to tap the centers to bow then down in to the open space. Does it look like it will hold, likely...but man the aftermarket part game is really starting to get to me
