FCP Euro offers this Volvo breather system kit at an affordable price without having to sacrifice the quality that you and your Volvo deserve. If you notice that your Volvo does not operate with the same level of power it once had, or if your exhaust is emanating an unusual odor, this may be related to your Volvo breather system. This kit will replace rubber tubing and fittings that become brittle with age. The tubing can also become restricted due to built up oil deposits and sludge within the hoses. This kit includes a new oil trap, all of the breather hoses, an intake gasket and all of the necessary hose clamps.

What causes my breather system to fail?

  • Wrong oil grade, quality and/or viscosity
  • Vehicles driven too many miles between oil changes
  • Vehicles frequently driven short distances with many cold starts
  • Excessive idling
  • Fuels of low quality or with high alcohol content
  • Additives added to oil or fuel
  • High ambient temperature
  • High air humidity

What can I do to check for it?

  • The first step is to inspect the oil filter to see if it is abnormally dirty. An abnormally dirty filter is easily recognized by its thick, black deposits
  • If the engine has a problem with carbon deposits, the passageways in the engine block and oil trap may be completely or partially clogged. Remove and check the oil trap, hoses and their passageways in the engine block. There should not be any major collections of carbon deposits in the hoses or in the passageways in the block.
  • Drain the engine oil. Remove the oil pan and check the oil pan and crankcase for deposits. Normally, there should not be any deposits. Also check the oil suction strainer on the oil suction line for contaminants and deposits.
  • Use a low caliber Vacuum gauge to check for positive pressure through the dipstick tube

Don't Forget To Clean The Block!!

TONS of problems arise from not properly taking care of your PCV system. If you have made it this far, make sure you do it correctly- once you have all of the old parts off, MAKE SURE YOU DO TWO THINGS: Clean your PTC nipple (The vac fitting with an electrical connector on it, down at the bottom of the intercooler pipe leading to the compressor) and ensure the holes in the front of the engine block that connect to the breather box are clear. The top one likely will be, but you should still clean it out. The bottom one is a PITA. i sprayed carb cleaner into mine, let it soak, and then blew all the gunk through with compressed air (Make sure to change your oil if you do this!). That passage must be clear otherwise you may as well have left the PCV system the way it was. If you can't clear it to the point where you can hear bubbles in the oil when you blow through it, you will have to drop the oil pan. Do some research and make sure you do this job right!!! As for the parts, they are great quality. All of the URO parts hoses that were on my car when I got it were brittle and cracked, and the previous owner had them installed less than 4 years ago. Get OEM parts for this job!!

Volvo Can Breathe Again

I received the kit very well packaged and was very good quality. Most of the parts were Volvo original and are holding up well after 1 year.

Fixed my oil consumption issue. Make sure the drain into the block is clear before installing the oil box.

The Kit To Get The Pcv All Done.

This kit will have every thing you need to service your PCV system. The crucial parts are official Volvo parts and the rest is high quality aftermarket parts. This is a critical thing you must do for your Volvo 850s. While you are doing this job, clean the EGR/Thottle body and replace those gaskets. The only downside for this kit is that it should have some of the vacuum lines and the EGR gasket included as well.

The kit contents installed without any issues but fails to contain a new gasket for the EGR valve on my 94 850. Be sure to order this separately as you will need to remove the valve in order to lift the intake.

Smoking Dipstick?

If you're having a smoking dipstick, chances are your PCV system is due for replacement. All of the pieces in this kit are of excellent quality and install is extremely easy and simple. Do not wait on replacing this! Failure to do so can cause blown oil seals!

Kit installed fairly easy. I had the whole thing done in 2hours. It would have been nice to have an extra hand a few times. Parts were direct fit. While I had the intake off, I installed new injector o-rings. Also, having a set of crimp-clamp pliers. Tile nippers would work too.

Some of the reviewers above may have been rewarded for their positive & negative reviews. We don't hold anything back.
