FCP Euro offers this Volvo breather system kit at an affordable price without having to sacrifice the quality that you and your Volvo deserve. If you notice that your Volvo does not operate with the same level of power it once had, or if your exhaust is emanating an unusual odor, this may be related to your Volvo breather system. This kit will replace rubber tubing and fittings that become brittle with age. The tubing can also become restricted due to built up oil deposits and sludge within the hoses. This kit includes a new oil trap, all of the breather hoses, an intake gasket and all of the necessary hose clamps.

What causes my breather system to fail?

  • Wrong oil grade, quality and/or viscosity
  • Vehicles driven too many miles between oil changes
  • Vehicles frequently driven short distances with many cold starts
  • Excessive idling
  • Fuels of low quality or with high alcohol content
  • Additives added to oil or fuel
  • High ambient temperature
  • High air humidity

What are some of the symptom’s I can expect if my breather system is clogged?

  • Illuminated oil pressure lamp. – Due to clogged oil suction strainer to oil pump or oil filter
  • Illuminated Check Engine Lamp- Due to incorrect engine fuel trim level parameters
  • Noise (whistling) – Noise due to high pressure in crankcase. This noise will stop if the oil filler cap is removed.
  • Poor Drivability- Clogged crankcase ventilation can reduce the engine performance
  • Uneven / Oscillating Idling- Caused by clogged crankcase ventilation
  • Oil leak- From engine seals due to restricted crankcase ventilation
  • Noise (knocking)- Low oil pressure can cause premature bearing wear and lead to internal engine component failure
  • High oil consumption/noise from Turbo
  • A damaged bearing or seal in the turbo due to lack of oil as a result of oil consumption.

What can I do to check for it?

  • The first step is to inspect the oil filter to see if it is abnormally dirty. An abnormally dirty filter is easily recognized by its thick, black deposits
  • If the engine has a problem with carbon deposits, the passageways in the engine block and oil trap may be completely or partially clogged. Remove and check the oil trap, hoses and their passageways in the engine block. There should not be any major collections of carbon deposits in the hoses or in the passageways in the block.
  • Drain the engine oil. Remove the oil pan and check the oil pan and crankcase for deposits. Normally, there should not be any deposits. Also check the oil suction strainer on the oil suction line for contaminants and deposits.
  • Use a low caliber Vacuum gauge to check for positive pressure through the dipstick tube

1994 Volvo 850 PCV kit contains everything you need plus a few other parts that cover other years. However it does come with those squeeze (oetiker) hose clamps which are a pita to work with. I would suggest if you going to do this job, which wasn't that bad to do fuel injector cleaning and o-rings, TB cleaning, MAF & IAC cleaning, and oil change before starting car up. Another thing I would look into is a different way of routing the plastic hose (which would mean not using it) that goes from separator box up and over intake manifold to flame trap fitting. Some plumbing fiittings with pex tubing might be a better route to go and allow you to increase pipe if size. Good luck

My oil is pretty again! This kit did contain all the parts I needed for my 94 Volvo 850 non-turbo wagon. I order some addition parts for the fuel system and cleaned it while I had the car open. Every thing fit together well. I'm glad I had the FCP EURO check if it was a suitable fit because there is more than one kit. I hope I can get another 200,000 miles out of these parts.

Very complete kit!
Symptoms: very rough and inconsistent idle. Vacuum issues, seemed like a PCV issue, as a "glove balloon test" on the oil filler showed inflation/deflation coinciding with changes in idle RPM and roughness. Research on Matthew's Volvo Site and UK Volvo Owners Forums suggested this could be a PCV issue, idle air control, or MAF. I cleaned the MAF with MAF sensor cleaner, and removed and cleaned the IAC with throttle body cleaner, then sprayed out the throttle body & reinstalled IAC. This improved drivability, but idle was still very rough. So, I bought the PCV kit, along with some other suggested parts to replace during the job. I passed the parts and info off to my mechanic, who watched your YouTube video, and was able to do the full job for only $200 labor. He was impressed with the completeness and quality of the parts, and the instructional video. Engine now idles and runs very smooth (for an unbalanced 5-cyl, LOL), Service and Check Engine lights are off and the car runs great. Other suggested parts to replace during this repair: Volvo Fuel Injector O Ring Kit 30731375 Volvo Fuel Injection Throttle Body Mounting Gasket 9135990OE Volvo Fuel Filter 3507416 Volvo Fuel Rail Seal 968007 & solvents: MAF Cleaner Throttle Body Cleaner

Volvo 850 PCV Kit
Kit arrived quickly, was exactly what I needed for my specific vehicle. Came with a few extra parts such as vacuum line and hose which I did end up using. I did call before to confirm the fit prior to ordering and they were dead on. Price, shipping speed and quality were all top notch. I will be ordering more from FCP Euro soon..

Kit worked wonderfully to alleviate my crankcase pressure problems. No more smoke under the hood at all. I gave it 4 stars because the crankcase breather hose is a bit smaller than the original one, and as such takes a little bending to clear the intake manifold and makes it a little awkward trying to get the fire trap into the intake.
