About Odometer Gears

Owned by Jeff Caplan, Odometer Gears started out when the Owner of the company needed to replace the Odometer gear on his 1980 BMW 528I to complete the restoration of the vehicle. However, after searching from repair shop to repair shop, everyone want to sell him the entire cluster repair service or in some cases the entire instrument cluster itself which could cost up to $1600 installed. Once he made his first gear, word got out and he quickly started getting orders from other enthusiasts. Today, Odometer Gears still has the passion and drive to make inexpensive solutions to repair expensive components by developing smaller parts to repair them.

Been looking for a replacement gear for our 850's odometer at the junk yard, but no luck because all of them were broken Lol. Found this here and installed it and works great :) Looking forward for the High Mileage club. Thanks FCP

Also needed on almost every Volvo...
Installation wasn't too terribly bad. Plan on removing the entire dash pad - don't just unhook one end and try to lift it up and get the cluster out. You risk cracking the dash pad if you do it any other way. Make sure you have some very small torx drivers - like smaller than T10 - I think I used T5 and T6, but it may have also gone smaller. I've used this brand of odometer gears in other cars before, and they hold up so much better than OEM. A nice afternoon project - but make sure you replace both gears. It's also a good time to remove that 'service' lamp from the cluster.

Pesky Little Gear...
Wish I could see the moose you speak of on the R's! My regular 96 850 Turbo had this quit out on me, replaced it right away. Bit of a job, take your time with it and you can get it done. I suggest getting the other gear too that this one meshes with, and the dash bulb kit. You don't want to do this job twice...

Better than the original
If you have an R it might be cool to see the moose on the back of your cluster, otherwise its a lot of work to take out and take apart the cluster. But also this keeps you from having to deal with BOX C mileage on your title.
