Product Information
Hood lift supports, or gas struts, are pressurized cylinders designed to hold up a car's hood. Over time, they can fail due to a pressure drop, often caused by exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, or contaminants. Cold weather, in particular, can reduce the gas pressure inside the struts, making them less effective at supporting the hood during cooler conditions.
Hood Lift Support Failure Symptoms- The hood may feel heavier or fail to stay open as high as before due to a gas leak in the lift support
- Grease or oil leaking from the existing shocks
- Seeping noise or creaks coming from the shocks when lifting the hood or trunk
- Hood or trunk fails to stay open when raised

Wonderful
Exactly the same part as VOLVO original supports!
Perfect fit for 2012 XC90 3.2L
Easy installation, now that the cold weather is here to hood didn't want to stay up on its own anymore. The new struts are great!!
Volvo XC90 2008. Fit perfectly. Easy to install. Much better than having the hood fall on you!
If you are looking for the trunk strut replacements look no further. These are just like original, they slow down towards the end of the move when you open the trunk. I had Tuff support struts for a couple of years on the trunk and they would always give me a feel like the car is some korean piece of art rather than a carefully engineered Volvo. Ended up replacing them for these and that returned the original feel for the way the trunk lid would open when the car was new.
No more lumps, bruises, stitches, or concussions for me! These new struts are worth every penny! The only downside is I don't see the friendly faces in the ER nearly as often anymore. Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yeah, hood struts. They fit and still work after 18 months, and I no longer need a 2x4 to check the oil! Thanks FCPEuro!
These are great for the price
The Volvo struts are superior (longer life & most consistent operation throughout wide temperature range)...but because these are half the price, I feel these are worth it. There are cheaper struts online, but I've tried them & they are disposable junk. The Stabilus ones are the best MID-price option I've found anywhere.
My original Volvo hood struts were working juuuuuuust well enough to give the false sense of hope that they were working well. However, I'd be working and see something moving and, oh, crap, the hood just fell on me. After having to deal with that five or six times, I whipped out a trusty lumber 2x3 hood prop and jammed it in place. Lo, and behold, my new Stabilus hood struts arrived and snapped right into place on my '06 XC90. I threw a little grease on the studs before I popped them on. No more worries of squishing my big, ugly mug against that sweet V8 intake plenum.
