Product Information

NOTE: The metal end fittings must be reused from the existing heater hoses. To do this, use any style of cutting tool to remove the metal collar from the existing pipes. Then insert the metal pipes into the matching silicone hose and fasten with a hose clamp.

Matching hose clamps are included, as well as new seals and coolant.

This kit replaces the heater core, along with all the parts that commonly cause firewall leaks at the heater pipe pass-through. The junction comes pre-installed with o-rings for the engine side, o-rings are included in the kit for the heater core side.

This kit contains Zerex® G48 coolant, which is OE formulated to Volvo coolant specifications. Color dye is dark blue, and can be mixed with all OE HOAT coolants regardless of color. You can read more about Zerex® coolant and your Volvo [HERE].

HVAC Heater Core

The HVAC heater core is a small radiator-like component located within the vehicle's HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system. It transfers heat from the engine coolant into the cabin, warming the air that passes through the HVAC system and providing heat to the vehicle’s interior. As hot coolant flows through the heater core, the blower motor pushes air over it, and the heated air is then directed into the cabin.

HVAC Heater Core Failure Symptoms
  • Weak or No Heat in the Cabin: If the heater core is partially or fully clogged, the warm air may not reach the cabin effectively, resulting in weak or no heat even when the heater is turned on high
  • Sweet or Musty Smell in the Cabin: The heater core contains engine coolant, which has a distinctive sweet smell. If there’s a leak, you may notice this odor inside the car. Over time, this smell can become musty as the leaking coolant sits in the ventilation system
  • Fogged-Up Windows: A leaking heater core can allow coolant to enter the HVAC system, which then evaporates onto the windshield, causing a foggy or hazy layer on the inside of the windows. This fog is often sticky and hard to wipe away.
