Fuel Pump Module Assembly

A fuel pump module assembly is a complete unit, typically located inside the fuel tank, that delivers pressurized fuel to the engine. Unlike a standalone fuel pump, the module will sometimes include:

  • Electric fuel pump – draws and pressurizes fuel.
  • Fuel filter/strainer – removes debris and contaminants.
  • Fuel pressure regulator – maintains consistent fuel pressure.
  • Fuel level sending unit – communicates fuel level to the gauge.

Key functions:

  • Supplies pressurized fuel to the injectors for combustion.
  • Maintains proper fuel pressure under different driving conditions.
  • Provides accurate fuel level readings to the dashboard gauge.
Fuel Pump Module Assembly Failure Symptoms
  • Engine stalling or no-start condition – pump fails to deliver fuel.
  • Loss of power or hesitation – weak fuel pressure causes poor acceleration.

Perfect fit.
I had an intermittent long crank on my XC90 V8, so I ordered a new fuel pump. It always a safe bet to use Genuine Volvo parts and thanks to FCP Euro for having it in stock and getting it to me quickly! My XC90 is happy again.

The computer in my 08 Volvo XC 90 3.2 was reporting over 100 miles left in the tank. The fuel gauge was was reporting 1-2 ticks over the red reserve. We were stretching our miles to reach a particular destination and I ran out of gas. We sputtered to a gas station and filled up. It ran fine from then on. Did the false data come from the sending unit on this pump?

Sending unit could certainly be the culprit, but it would be impossible to speculate from here.
