Volvo Forged Rear Upper Adjustable Control Arm
Volvo S40, C70, C30, and V50 models have a notorious problem with rear camber wear. Part of this problem has to due with an original control arm design which did not allow for enough adjustability of the rear camber. Volvo later redesigned the control arm to counteract inner tire wear.
Allows for -1.5° to +3.0° of camber adjustability
The OEM replacement are is expensive and still does not allow the type of rear camber adjustment that this SPC control arm does. With up to 4.5" of camber adjustment you will be able to dial in the perfect alignment specs. In addition, this forged control arm is much more durable than the OE cast aluminum part. This control arm is ideal for both factory spec and modified cars.
Note: Includes inner and outer bushings. This control arm should be installed in pairs. Please order two and take to an alignment specialist after installation.
Control arms are crucial link in a vehicle's suspension connecting the suspension to a vehicle's subframe. These pieces are usually hinged to allow for suspension to travel and articulate as the vehicle rides over obstructions in the road and while the vehicle turns. Many vehicles such as those with independent suspensions have multiple links and feature several connection points and arms to offer better ride quality and comfort.
As bushings and joints in a control arm begin to wear you may notice a looseness feel in your suspension. And while many arms have replaceable and serviceable individual components, many still require the replacement of the entire arm. Below are signs of when a replacement control arm may be needed:
Suspension Control Arm Failure Symptoms- Play in suspension joints where these arms meet the subframe and/or knuckle
- Buckling noise emanating from the suspension
- Uneven tire wear
- Inability to properly align vehicle
- Shutter or vibration coming from the steering wheel at highway speed

This is the control arm you need if you want your tires to last longer and not end up cupped. The adjustment is needed to reduce the negative camber that the C30 is known to have from stock. It makes the short wheelbase very stable but is murder on tires.
As part of my suspension refresh, I decided I wanted to install lowering springs on my car along with the new shocks and struts. I know lowering will mess with my alignment, so in the interest of keeping my tires wearing properly, I bought these adjustable control arms. Out of the box, it is very evident these control arms will be a significant upgrade to the stock parts. I laid the SPC control arm on top of the stock control arm and adjusted it to stock length before installation. Installation of the driver side control arm was very straightforward (made easier since I had the shock and spring removed since I was replacing them), but the passenger side control arm has the leak detection pump mounted right in front of the inner bolt head (this is on a 2007 Volvo S40 T5 FWD). I find it easier to lower the rear subframe about 3 inches to remove the LDP, bend the LDP mounting bracket and then get a tool on the inner bolt head. Overall, that all went pretty smoothly but note I am a professional mechanic with all the tools and I did this on a shop lift. On the alignment rack afterward, I was surprised to find my rear camber was technically in specification, but near the limits of the range (remember, I installed lowering springs with these control arms). With the wheels on the car and the car on the alignment rack, getting a tool on the adjusting nut (32mm) and jam nut (27mm) is challenging. If you are paying someone else to align your car, this is not your problem. For me, I ended up using a pair of Knipex Cobra pliers to adjust my rear camber and set it dead center of the range and thus pleasing my OCD. I was actually able to get my 27mm wrench on the jam nut to lock the adjuster nut in place. In spite of the difficulty making these adjustments, I was very pleased with the quality of these control arms. The adjusting nuts moved very smoothly. Great product!
7 months later and so far so good. Brought my rear wheel camber to -1.5 from -2.8
These are a must for volvos that have an excessive rear negative camber problem.
These arms are absolutely necessary if your lowering a P1 volvo at all. But if your wearing the inside edge of the rear tires at stock ride height, then these will take care of that 100% after you get an alignment-- allows you to set camber to anywhere within factory spec and also outside the spec... its more than enough adjustment, genuine SPC products are a sure bet. Dont forget to grease the threads after you install to prevent them from seizing and to allow future alignments.

These adjustable camber arms straightened out the severe rear camber that was chewing up my tires. Perfect cure. I should have installed them when I bought it over a year ago. Just not sure who to take it to now though for a serious alignment...
