Engine Water Pump

Your vehicles engine water pump is responsible for keeping coolant flowing through the engine. As water pumps get old the internal bearing can go bad causing noise and a coolant leak. A good indicator that your water pump is failing is if you see coolant leaking through the water pump "weep hole".

Engine Water Pump Failure Symptoms
  • Coolant leak through weep hole
  • Play at water pump pulley shaft indicating a bad bearing
  • Squeaking noise coming from pump at idle
  • Overheating conditions
  • Low coolant light on instrument cluster indicating a cooling system leak

NOT OEM
While this pump comes as part of their OEM timing belt kit (mechanical tensioner), the HEPU pump is not stock on these blocks. Still working though; but if it fails soon...

Not a bad alternative to the Aisin
Yes, you're only saving $20 buying this instead of an Aisin, but when these cars start to beat you down, they really beat you down. Purists will say that you should only do an Aisin or a Volvo water pump in a P80... We've put about 15K over almost 3 years and the pump has been solid. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase again. I will probably replace it with another Hepu come the next timing belt job.

Good pump, bad gasket
Seems to be a good part, the gasket it comes with is not good (feels cheap and mine was creased), I recommend buying the Elwis gasket to go along with this.

Vehicle: 2001 Volvo V70 XC AWD I bought this in 2013 as part of an OEM timing belt kit. I was pretty certain I torqued the bolts right, but sadly, within two years the gasket had deteriorated and started leaking, and the pump itself began failing, but this was probably due to exhaust gases being pushed into the coolant system, so likely not Hepu's fault at all. Anyways, even once the exhaust gases were no longer an issue, because coolant had sprayed from the pump's leak all over the timing belt, it meant that the lifetime of the rubber in the belt was compromised, so I had to replace that too, which was also 100% refunded. 4 stars because the gasket deteriorated and started leaking and I don't think it should have regardless of other issues, and because in my replacement one the gasket tore very easily during installation, necessitating a trip to a nearby auto parts store to spend a few dollars on a new gasket. Five stars and more for FCPEuro, because they refunded me the entire purchase price of the replacement water pump and timing belt once they received the old ones!

What can I say? It works, I don't see any leaks. I replaced mine at the same time as the timing belt kit. Everything was working before, and continues to do so. I've heard good things about Hepu so I feel good about this buy.

Great quality at a good price
Hepu makes a great water pump, I installed this one on a 1995 850 I just bought. I think it's as close as you can get to O.E. without buying from Volvo. I've used Hepu water pumps on other V70's I own and they're still going strong.

Just as good as OEM for much less money
I recently changed my water pump and timing belt on my 98 S70. The pump that was on the car had been on since around 70k miles. The car now has 191k miles and the pump was barely beginning to leak but the bearing had no play. To my surprise it was a HEPU pump. Seeing as how that pump lasted over 120k miles, I am feeling pretty good about putting another HEPU pump on the car, plus it is cheaper than the AISIN pump. However, I would recommend getting the OEM gasket.

I agree with the other posters- this is a metal pump which come with the gasket and new bolts for a decent price. I think it will easily last two belt changes.
