Door Latch Assembly

A door latch assembly is the mechanical (and sometimes partially electronic) mechanism inside a vehicle door that secures the door closed and releases it when the handle is pulled. It connects to both the interior and exterior door handles, the door lock mechanism, and sometimes power lock actuators.

The assembly ensures that the door stays shut while driving and allows it to open safely when needed.

Door Latch Assembly Failure Symptoms
  • Door Won’t Latch Properly: Door may not fully close or may pop open unexpectedly.
  • Door Won’t Open from Inside or Outside: Pulling the handle does not release the latch.
  • Loose or Wobbly Door Handle: Handles may feel disconnected or have excessive play.
