I’m usually pretty picky about my brakes and these pads are by far the best I’ve used on the xc90. I’ve tried ate, akebono, textar, Bosch and a few others.
The pagid pads have great bite and a nice linear predictable feel. They do leave some dust but it’s not really an issue if you clean your car frequently. I’ve put these pads to the test and I really liked them paired with pagid high carbon rotors but those rotors ended up with a thickness variation after about a year so I switched to ate rotors. This is the magic combo. I’ve towed 6500 lbs with no issues or worry (yeah I know it’s over the weight limit). I’ve purposefully been hard on them just to see how they hold up and I’ve definitely tested the fade resistance where the brakes got so hot that the brake temp high message popped up. They are still smooth and consistent.
Comparing them to the others I would put the list as follows:
1. Pagid (great bite with reliable stopping power)
2. ATE (similar but more fade)
3. Akebono ( surprisingly good for a ceramic pad but not quite as good as semi metallic)
4. Bosch ( mid tier pad but good for the price)
5. Textar ( this one I was most disappointed in because they were great on the Mercedes so my expectations were high but the initial bite was terrible and they faded quickly. I removed them after 1000 miles. There’s not much information on them but I believe they were an organic compound)
If you prioritize stopping power, strong bite and a confident feel then these pads are it.
Just installed these, love them smooth, strong braking… I had Bosch, but staying with these going forward, smooth.
