A disc brake pad retaining clip (also known as a brake pad retaining spring or anti-rattle clip) is a small metal component that helps secure the brake pads in place within the brake caliper assembly. The clip holds the brake pads tightly against the caliper bracket, preventing them from moving around or rattling. In addition to reducing brake noise, the clip also helps ensure even pad wear and consistent brake performance.
Disc Brake Pad Retaining Clip Failure Symptoms- Rattling or Clicking Noises: If the retaining clip is damaged or missing, you may hear rattling, clicking, or clunking noises from the brakes, especially when going over bumps or during low-speed driving. This is often due to the brake pads shifting within the caliper
- Uneven or Premature Brake Pad Wear: Without a functioning clip, the brake pads may not stay properly aligned with the rotor, causing uneven or accelerated wear on the pads, which can reduce braking efficiency and require more frequent pad replacement
