  • When replacing the head gasket, you should also order the cylinder head bolts p/n 6842347 (x12).
  • This gasket set comes with intake manifold gasket p/n 1275055 which is the most common intake manifold gasket. On some applications it may be necessary to order part number 9146266 or 9458534 separately.
  • It may be necessary to order thermostat housing gasket number 9463274
  • This gasket set is for models with VVT. On models without VVT, add camshaft seal 9440651

Engine Cylinder Head Gasket Sets are typically used as part of an entire engine rebuild or when the gasket "blows" resulting in leaking oil and antifreeze. These are no small tasks and should be performed by an experienced mechanic or DIY'er.

Engine Cylinder Head Gasket

A cylinder head gasket seals the cylinder head to the engine block. A head gasket performs a few important functions. For starters, a head gasket seals the combustion chamber of the engine allowing the engine to create proper compression. In addition, head gaskets seal oil and coolant passages between the cylinder head and engine block which prevents fluids from mixing or entering the combustion chamber.

Good
The gaskets will fit, except for intake and exhaust. My 1998 s70 2.0 has a different pattern holes (perfect circular). Ensure the fitment before you buy this kit.

Are the valve stem seals in this kit genuine Volvo or should I purchase those separately? Asking because the valve stem seals in this kit, it says they are 6mm and will fit my 98 s70 glt. However, if I look up valve stem seals only 226946 is listed and says it’s for 7mm valves but also fits my 98 s70 glt. Thanks in advance. Cory Bolinger

It would depend on if your vehicle had the 6mm or the 7mm valve stems. We recommend purchasing this kit and if you find that your engine has the 7mm valve stem seals then you can purchase them separately. Volvo is unclear about which ones come with the car, and specify both. It may be because the dealer would measure the valve stems if they were doing this job and grab the correct seals off the shelf at that time.
