If you look into these you find that the castings that are machined into pulleys have changed over time. This is normal with wear to permanent molds, don't ask me how I know... The misalignment of the A/B half of the tool, and resulting flashing, make the pockets smaller on new parts vs original clean castings. Also I wouldn't rule out some yahoo building an aftermarket permanent mold and just not measuring the geometry that carefully. The upshot is you need to make this puppy fit, story of my life. It's only mild steel so you can do the work with a file if you are patient, but I'm a Dremel girl.

My crankshaft pulley bolt was super stuck, Tried using a breaker bar with this counter stay, it will bend the counter stay! But if you use a impact driver it works perfectly, I bent the first one and FCP hooked it up and replaced it for free. Thinking the first one just had a bad weld, tried breaker bar again and bent it again was still able to use it though. So just use the impact driver it takes it out in seconds and wont bend the counter stay.

if you're doing anything that requires taking off the crankshaft pulley, this makes it possible.

I used to use a muffler clamp and chain. This is the way to go

But when you need one, there's no substitute. If you're planning on replacing your own timing belt, this is an absolute must, and while it's somewhat expensive, it'll pay for itself the first time you use it.
