The catalytic converter gasket is the sealing component located between the catalytic converter and other exhaust system parts, such as the exhaust manifold or header pipes leading from the exhaust side of the cylinder head. Its purpose is to create a tight seal, preventing exhaust gases from escaping at the connection points. This ensures that the exhaust gases flow through the catalytic converter, which reduces harmful emissions before they exit the vehicle’s exhaust system.

• Exhaust Leaks: A common symptom of a bad catalytic converter gasket is an exhaust leak, which can be detected by a hissing or popping sound coming from the exhaust system, especially near the catalytic converter. You might notice this sound more when accelerating.
• Exhaust Odor: If the catalytic converter gasket fails, exhaust gases, including unprocessed pollutants, can escape before they are properly treated by the catalytic converter. This may lead to a noticeable smell of exhaust fumes, which can be particularly strong and unpleasant.
