Ditto on previous comment about taking apart the connector to connect the pins. Also, a previous post (Jul 18) said the green (gen) wire was ground and the brown / yellow wire was hot. This is in fact not the case. A later post verified that coming from the engine, the green wire is hot and the yellow / brown is ground. So connector 1's wire should go to yellow / brown and 2's wire should go to green wire coming from the engine.
Would greatly benefit to add a little diagram in the box with this part, FCP! Hope that helps!
The solenoid works as expected (2001 V70 2.4T), but for the people who have trouble with the connector, the right part number is 9441561. While I didn't buy my solenoid from FCP Euro, I've got the same problem. The kit came paired with the wrong connector which I suspect would fit the intake side (for the cars that have it). I wrote to the vendor and they confirmed it was the wrong part number and they sent me the correct one. Hope this helps someone.
Great Product! Shipped very quickly and well packaged. It did take a minute to figure out how correctly install as there is little to no information for the wiring. I checked to see if anyone that left a review had any suggestions only to find not so helpful reviews on this item. For those that say that the connected is not great I believe that they did not figure out that you can take the connector apart to install the wires correctly. I discovered that one by fiddling with it for a little trying to figure it out. The second issue I ran into was connecting the new wires to the old ones. I was not sure which one was the ground and which one was the hot wire on the new solenoid with again no information online about this. I ended up discovering that point two was the hot and point 1 was ground. After figuring all this out installation was a breeze! Only tiny complaint was lack of helpful information regarding installation. Other than that it worked like a charm once installed and I am very happy with my purchase.
As another reviewer mentioned, the wire connector design is horrible. As the OEM unit had a different plug design, you need to splice a new connector in using butt connectors. I tried numerous times to seat the wire ends into the harness, but it always seemed out of alignment. As a result, the solenoid was not recognized by the car's computer.
I relented and followed the other reviewer's advice by plugging the wires directly to the pins on the CVVT solenoid. I also squeezed in some electric-insulating, sensor-safe Loctite RTV to prevent the wires from coming loose. In fact, for anyone planning to buy this, I would just go straight to this method. RTV glue the wires into the plug, use detachable bullet connectors in case the wires arent matched correctly the first time and you swap the wires later, if needed. I couldnt find a wiring diagram anywhere so had to test if i had the appropriate connection the first time (I didn't so had to dismount the CVVT to switch the wires around). All in all, the shipping was quick as always with FCP but the product does need finagling to work right. Happy to report that my lumpy idle and engine light are both gone.
Amazing.. everything was spot on as stated before purchase.This part was made for my car and came really fast. Also the parts were wrapped and easy to verify each piece. I will be using Fcpeuro as my go to...very satisfied.
First FCP got me my part quickly and on time. What they sent is what I ordered. So they get 5 stars. Its the connector that Volvo has made for this part that is the issue. If you use the enclosed connector good luck. I had to plug the wires directly into the part on the pins so i could get a connection. Note the Gen/Org wire is connected to side labeled 1. The Yellow/Brown wire goes to connector point 2. Make sure you wire it up this way or else it doesn't work and your code will stay on the ODMII reader.
The new solenoid works like a "champ"....no more CEL.
Had a code and the forums said this part would fix the problem. It was easy to install if you are familiar with working on cars. Car stopped throwing the code, so 5 stars!

Looks like both wires in the kit are red, how does one easily tell them apart? Or does the polarity not matter for the connector?

In order to install you will have to match up the wires from your existing connector. In the connector housing there will be numbers in small print that you can use for reference.
