This P1 C70 specific third brake light is part of the rear handle assembly, and does not have individually serviceable bulbs. If a light goes out, the assembly must be replaced. Make sure to check the wiring going to the trunk beforehand, as it is a common failure point that may also result in loss of function of the rear lights or latches.
A Center High Mount Stop Light, also known as the third brake light, is the red warning light mounted higher than the vehicle’s left and right brake lights — usually at the top of the rear window, trunk lid, or roofline. It provides an extra level of visibility to alert drivers behind when the brakes are applied.
Center High Mount Stop Light Failure Symptoms- Light does not illuminate when braking – could be due to a burned-out bulb (halogen), bad LED module, faulty wiring, or blown fuse.
- Dim or flickering light – often from poor electrical contact, corroded connectors, or weakening LEDs.
- Partial illumination (for LED strips) – some sections work while others fail, showing an uneven light pattern.
