Product Information

This battery cable splice kit comes complete with the built in disconnect, a common failure point which can be responsible for no-start situations.

Battery Cable

A battery cable is a thick electrical cable that connects a vehicle’s battery terminals to the starter, ground (chassis), and electrical system. It carries the electrical current needed to start the engine and power all the car’s electrical components.

Battery Cable Failure Symptoms
  • Difficulty Starting the Vehicle: Corroded or damaged cables can reduce current flow, causing slow or no engine crank.
  • Intermittent Electrical Issues: Flickering dashboard lights, radio cutting out, or other erratic electrical behavior.
  • Visible Corrosion or Damage: White or greenish buildup on cable ends or frayed, cracked insulation.

About Genuine Volvo

The original parts used by Volvo to build your car are available as replacement parts under the “Genuine Volvo” brand. Manufactured under the direction of Volvo, expect excellent quality and a premium price since these parts are exclusively available through the Volvo Dealership network.

You may not realize this, but the parts that make up your Volvo are not necessarily manufactured by Volvo. No cause for concern, as Volvo designs the part, hires a manufacturer, and ensures its quality to you. In fact, many of these manufacturers have been making parts for Volvo for decades. In our industry these manufacturers are called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and these are often brands you recognize, including Lemforder, ZF, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Zimmermann, Siemens VDO, Corteco, and more. Don’t be surprised to open that Genuine Volvo parts box and find an OEM branded part inside, simply with the addition of a Volvo logo.

Be sure to keep an eye out for OE tags on our product pages to quickly identify parts coming direct from OE manufacturers. That extra bit of insight could save you some serious money while shopping! Refer to our OE Academy for further information regarding the OE/OEM tags throughout the site.

Question Posted by a customer
I have a 2008 Volvo XC70. After replacing the battery a few weeks ago, the car will periodically just go completely dead (no power to anything, can't even remove the key if it is inserted). Most of the time wiggling the positive battery cable will get things going again, but it isn't because the connection to the battery is loose. This vehicle has the strangest positive battery cable configuration I have ever seen - 2 cables exiting the box at different places, and with odd 'bulges' near where they bolt onto the terminal connector, also a hard 'test point?' with a plastic cover on it and a tab which fits along the side of the battery top. I want to know if this is the correct cable to replace one (or both?) of the positive leads for this year and model, and also if I should do the other cable at the same time (if it isn't part of this one)?
