The CV (Constant Velocity) axle assembly is responsible for transferring torque and rotational power from the transmission to the wheels while allowing for suspension movement and steering articulation. The CV axle consists of a shaft with joints at both ends: a CV joint that connects the axle to the transmission and another CV joint that connects the axle to the wheel hub. This design allows the axle to handle changes in angle and length as the vehicle moves, especially when turning or going over bumps.
CV Axle Assembly Failure Symptoms- Clicking or Popping Noises: One of the most common signs of a failing CV axle is a clicking or popping noise when turning the vehicle. This noise typically occurs when the CV joint is damaged or worn out, especially during sharp turns.
- Vibration While Driving: A failing CV axle can cause noticeable vibrations while driving, especially at higher speeds. This vibration may indicate that the axle is bent, or damaged, or that the CV joints are worn out.
- Grease Leaks: If the CV axle boot tears or cracks, grease can leak out. You may notice grease on the inside of the wheel or around the CV joint. This can lead to increased wear on the joint due to a lack of lubrication.

I put this in 3.5 years and 30k miles ago, still holding up great. Nice and smooth. It was tough putting enough force on it so that it snapped into place in the transmission, but I got it eventually. I just had to change the passenger side today, and went with GKN for that also.
Unfortunately this is my second one. I replaced my last axle about 20,000 miles ago but it started clunking too much when driving. This time it clunks when turning. Volvo v70 2.5t 2007
Definitely didn't have steak dinner after buying this thing, but with certain parts I take "you get what you pay for" to heart. As expected from an OEM part the quality looks great, This one didn't have the rubber donut? on the shaft like the one that came on the car but, they both certainly had GKN stamped on them.
The axle has been clicking since installation in my Volvo S60 2.5T AWD, it's already installed so i have no choice but to continue driving it while it clicks, other than that the Axle seems to be holding up.
Put this and a passenger side axle in my wife's 220K miles V70 R. Smooth as silk.
One of my boots ripped so decided to replace both of them might as well instead of replacing them they were gonna charge me what one cost pretty much so why not. I replaced the original one with this one pretty much the identical only difference is the rubber piece this one doesn't have other than that they are the same. really great part rubber feels thick pieces and joints feel solid and tight freely moving no hesitation. The packaging was not the best I'm surprised but they arrived the bolt was great as well if you're gonna tackle this job just know it might take half or a whole day and a lot of elbow grease taking or popping this out. There's a lot to mention if you're about to replace this but if it's the only thing you plan then go for it great part great price knowing you'll have a warranty and lifetime replacement!
Worked like a treat. Bought both sides and although a bit more expensive an option than FEQ, but cheaper than a tow truck, I feel safer and I only wanted to do the job once. My tripod rollers on the passenger side and just about all the boots were toast. The axle bolts don't match, they are black and the washer is a bit smaller in diameter I had some extra OEM Volvo axle bolts, but they felt tight so I didn't swap them in.

The numbers for the front axles on your R are 8252057 and 8252040, does not look like any quality aftermarket axles are currently available due to the rarity of this chassis/drivetrain combination.

Because of the way the Genuine Volvo and GKN supply chain works, these may be new or remanufactured. New genuine Volvo axles may also be rebuilds from GKN since both aftermarket and genuine product streams go to the same place. New or Reman these will still be the highest quality CV axles on the market and we stand behind GKN quality.

How many splines on the transmission side? I don't believe that this fits a 2006 S60R with Automatic Transmission (28 spline count). The 2006 S60 Auto (non-R) has 26 spline count.
