Product Information

The early AW55-50/51SN five speed automatic transmissions have an issue with shift “flares” and other symptoms related to shifting in and out of 3rd gear. This B4 servo cover update can solve these symptoms in many cases.

Quality made in Spain

Volvo has changed the design of the B4 servo cover multiple times and there are numerous Volvo service bulletins regarding it. The latest design is the factory design on later model years.

We highly recommend a transmission software upgrade prior to or in conjunction with the B4 servo cover update! A fluid flush would also be a good idea. Transmission software upgrades must be done with a Volvo shop using Volvo's VIDA application.

The B4 Servo issues usually don't affect 2004 and newer models, but some of these cars still have a variety of shifting issues that can be solved in many cases by a transmission software upgrade.

Fluid loss
Update to my prior review. Make sure to check transmission fluid level after using this part with the undersized o-ring. I found my Volvo was slightly under the low mark on the transmission dipstick. Much more transmission fluid leaked than what I had thought. Don't us the supplied o-rings!

O rings
I purchased the factory part to replace the leaking Proparts cover. Upon removal of the Proparts cover I measured the O ring Cross section to be 2.0 mm. The factory part came with O rings that measure 2.4 mm and it doesn't leak. Either...I simply got a bad one OR Proparts is supplying the wrong size O rings. I can't recommend buying the less expensive Proparts cover until more is known.

Proparts 30751262 leaking
Everything seemed ok with this less expensive b4 servo cover but after 2 months it has begun to leak. I would have to conclude the 3 o -rings in the kit aren't correct. The original cover did not leak so I assume the original factory o-rings are different. Its SOP to replace the early covers with the uprated design. The old design was prone to internal failure.

Good quality except for the o-rings
I purchased and installed two of these - one in an '01 V70 and the second in an '04 XC70. Both started leaking transmission fluid after a few months. Both had visible shrinkage of the o-rings when I removed the parts to determine the cause of the leaks. I cleaned and installed the original Volvo o-rings onto the parts to solve the problem. Thankfully I hadn't discarded the original Volvo parts when I installed the new components. I would recommend skipping use of the Proparts Sweden o-rings.
