Chances are that many of you have received the common "Anti-Skid Service Required" message from your P2 Volvo. If you haven't, there's a good chance that you may come across it during the span of owning your vehicle. This common error message tends to be found the most on the P2 platform vehicles ranging from model years 2003-2010.

The steering angle sensor is incorporated into the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) contact reel which is actually part of your steering wheel module. Inside of the steering wheel sensor is a code wheel which follows the movement of the steering wheel and calculates the steering wheel angle, turning speed, and number of turns.

The first step to remedy this issue would be to upgrade the steering angle sensor software. If the software has been installed and the sensor re-calibrated but the error message still remains then a new steering angle sensor must be installed.

Did the Trick
Had error lights on the dash for the stability control system, and the SWAS (AKA clockspring) was listed as a common failure cause. Replaced the SWAS per FCP Euro's Youtube how-to video, and it fixed the issue! Not a cheap part, but it's certainly way cheaper than taking the vehicle to a dealership! FWIW, I did not need to do any sort of recalibration afterwards to get rid of the error lights.

For that intermittent "Anti-Skid Service Required" message.
I found that at full lock turning, this message would pop up with a red triangle and then go away. It's kind of an expensive part (wife was shocked) but the peace of mind to know my safety systems in my car are operating as designed makes the cost less important. I installed this and that warning message has not been back on since. Thank you FCP Euro for helping me keep my Volvo in fine working order!

SAS and clockspring module fit perfectly
SAS and clockspring module fit perfectly. Says angle sensor needs to be calibrated. Haven't done that yet.

If the vehicle has the latest software you can turn the wheel lock to lock with the key in position 2. If it doesn't have the latest software you'll need to bring it to your local dealership to have the new unit calibrated.
