Auto adjusting version, use this version to help keep the A/C system at a cooler temperature when the vehicle is at idle. Volvo calls this an "A/C Expansion Valve".
An A/C expansion valve's primary function is to regulate the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator, where it absorbs heat and cools the air inside the vehicle. The expansion valve reduces the pressure of the refrigerant, allowing it to expand and cool before it enters the evaporator coils. This process is essential for efficient cooling and overall performance of the A/C system.
A/C Expansion Valve Failure Symptoms- Poor Cooling Performance: One of the most common symptoms of a failing expansion valve is reduced cooling efficiency. The air coming from the vents may not be as cold as expected, even when the A/C system is running
- Frost or Ice Build-Up: If the expansion valve is stuck open, too much refrigerant may enter the evaporator, leading to excessive cooling and ice formation on the evaporator coils. This can cause airflow restrictions and further decrease cooling efficiency

Used in a Volvo 850 - Worked ok for a couple weeks after replacing alongside a new compressor + drier. After that, the valve seemed to stick partially closed which caused both the compressor to be extremely loud and the high-pressure switch to rapidly cut the compressor off/on. While it was working, its performance wasn't noticeably better in a temp range of 60-110F than this car's standard 0.062" fixed tube, which is what I switched back to without issue for the past year. This may be a good product for you if you happen to get a non-defective one, but I think it's safer to get a fixed orifice tube since the process of changing it is really inconvenient.
I converted the original r12 A/C system to r134a and originally installed a fixed orifice and wasn’t thrilled with the performance. This variable orifice made a noticeable difference in overall system performance but especially while in traffic.

Variable orifice valve's look the same as fixed orifice tubes, but are able to change output depending on different operating conditions. A fixed orifice tube is really a compromise between highway performance, stop and go, and idle performance. This is because at idle, the condenser has less air flow across its surface. This causes head pressures to increase, but also causes vaporized refrigerant leaving the condenser to enter the orifice tube.
This is because at low speed and idle conditions, the refrigerant is moving through the condenser very rapidly sending high temperature vapor and liquid to the orifice tube. Subcooled liquid entering the orifice tube is ideal for flooding the evaporator core of a cycling clutch orifice tube system. Vapor entering the orifice tube will reduce the effectiveness of the refrigerant.
With a VOV at idle, a bimetal control spring blocks off one of two ports, reducing the flow of refrigerant and allowing more heat to be removed in the condenser. As speeds increase, the valve opens back up allowing maximum flow through the system again. This improves performance over a fixed orifice tube at low speeds and idle, while still providing a high level of performance at highway speeds.
