A/C Refrigerant Suction Hose

An A/C refrigerant suction hose is a flexible hose in a vehicle’s air conditioning system that carries low-pressure refrigerant from the evaporator (inside the cabin) back to the compressor. It’s part of the closed-loop refrigerant circuit and is designed to handle low-pressure, low-temperature refrigerant in gas form.

These hoses are usually made of reinforced rubber or synthetic materials with metal fittings at each end to withstand pressure changes and vibration.

A/C Refrigerant Suction Hose Failure Symptoms
  • Reduced Cooling Performance: The A/C may blow warm or less cold air due to refrigerant loss or restricted flow.
  • Hissing or Bubbling Noise: A refrigerant leak in the hose can cause audible hissing when the system is running.
  • Visible Refrigerant or Oil Leaks: Refrigerant often carries a small amount of oil; oily residue or wet spots around hose connections can indicate failure.
