Volvo A/C Accumulator - Nissens 9187629

This part didn't fit my 850. And the reviews indicate it won't fit an 850 if you read them. Even though FCP says it's the right part for the application. The threaded portion the hose to the compressor threads onto is tapped incorrectly. I'm guessing FCP sold more of these than people have left reviews for here. And the fact that FCP no longer sells them sure leads me to believe they figured out that they don't fit 850s, which might explain why they don't sell them anymore. The best offer I got? Ship it back at my cost and upgrade to another part they have, and they will refund the original purchase. So, I pay half the price of the part to return it? Why hasn't FCP contacted the people who bought these to inform them the parts were defective? Why hasn't FCP done some sort of a recall? I can't be the only customer whose winter project didn't get completed until spring, and then got surprised? My 2024 purchases from FCP totaled nearly $5k and they are getting cheap on a $24 defective product with me?

The threaded nipple in this receiver/drier has the thread cut wrong. The thread is nominally a 22mm x 1.75 thread. This means that in the male thread should measure around 21.7 mm maximum diameter. The thread on this Nissens part measured 22.12mm, with the 1.75 pitch. The result... the compressor suction hose nut seized twice when trying to thread it in, the second time deforming the seal surface. Not having another receiver/drier available, not being in stock at the nearby auto part stores, and with prices much higher than what I had paid for this one, I ended up having to re-cut the thread with a needle file. I then had to find a socket with the right dimensions to recover the shape the seal surface. I also had to cut the old receiver drier thread, in the shape of a thread tap, to be able to clean the aluminum that got stuck in the compressor suction hose nut threads. Additionally, the quick disconnect tube was at wrong angle, and would not fit the car properly. Again, I had to find the right size piece of steel to be able to bend the tube without damaging the tube or distorting the quick disconnect, so the receiver/drier would fit. I ended up spending close to 4 hours trying to fix this receiver drier defects, and the problems it created. By the way, I was replacing the orifice tube that I had diagnosed to be blocked, and wanted to replace the receiver/drier. The compressor was noisy and high pressure was shutting it off. I did find that the orifice tube screen filter was completely clogged with very fine, rust color dust, that made removing the old orifice tube very difficult too. I also found that the high pressure steel tube that goes from the high pressure sensor to the evaporator inlet in the car, was covered inside with the same dust. Did the Omega receiver drier that I had installed in 2011 fail, creating this problem? Back then, the proper evacuation of the system had been achieved, to remove all traces of moisture before recharging the system. Charging the system with the 750 grams of R134 recommended by Volvo label results in very low pressure readings. 4Seasons recommends 960 grams of R134 for this car. I left the system with 790 grams, still low pressure readings, but the system cooling better than it had never cooled before since I owned the car, when the right pressures had been achieved by over-charging the system. The compressor is quiet again, and cycling as described in the Volvo VADIS. With the lower refrigerant charge, there was also a marked improvement in fuel consumption too.

The thread pitch of this drier is slightly different than that of the nut on the low-pressure hose connection on an 850. You will end up cross threading the nut after 2-3 turns if you continue to try and tighten it.
