Does your BMW fan speed control not function properly anymore?

If yes, there is a pretty good chance that your blower motor resistor has failed. The blower motor resistor, or final stage unit, is a common failure item on most BMW's and is primarily responsible for controlling your blower motors speed. Installation of this resistor is very simple and straight forward.

Installation for the resistor is vehicle specific, but many DIY's can be found on the internet and BMW forums.

HVAC Blower Motor Resistor

The blower motor resistor is sometimes also known as a blower motor control unit, and its purpose is to regulate the speed of the blower fan. The electricity going into the resistor is often a constant value from the main power source, and the fan speed is controlled by the output of the resistor. Due to the amount of electricity being managed by the blower motor resistor, they can get quite hot during normal operation.

Go with OEM
Purchased this to fix my failing resistor as fan speed 1 no longer worked. Visually, the old OEM part and this aftermarket part look identical. No issues with the installation. After installing this part, I now have intermittent issues with fan speeds 1-3 as fan speed 4 bypasses the resistor. I am seeing fairly consistent issues with fan speed 3 where the blower motor will shut off for 10-90 seconds, come back for 30-120 seconds, shut off again, then repeat. I personally recommend just purchasing the OEM version. I will be replacing this unit with OEM myself.
