A door lock actuator is an electromechanical component in a vehicle that controls the locking and unlocking of the doors. It receives signals from the key fob, door switch, or central locking system and activates the locking mechanism to secure the door or allow entry. The actuator is typically found in each door and may also be part of the vehicle's overall security system.

Door Lock Actuator Failure Symptoms
  • Inability to Lock or Unlock the Door: The most obvious sign of a failing door lock actuator is that the door cannot be locked or unlocked using the key fob or door switch
  • Intermittent Locking Issues: The actuator may work sporadically, causing the door to lock or unlock inconsistently. You might hear clicking sounds without the door responding
  • Door Lock Sticking: The actuator may cause the door lock to stick or jam, making it difficult to open or close the door

2011 BMW 550i
Used this to replace my faulty soft close actuator/door lock actuator. Everytime I closed my driver side door or cycled the ignition the soft close actuator would make a very loud noise for a few seconds and did not actually pull the door in anymore. Installed this replacement and found it works great and my softclose is working again for my driver door. No fitment issues, feels like a good quality part.

Cheap Chinese knockoff
Replaced my drivers door lock actuator with this Vemo brand. The soft close does not activate until the latch is completely closed; so it essentially just acts like a regular door latch. If you try to gently close the door, as you normally would with soft close, the door hangs partially open and latched into the first position but does not pull shut. The "instruction" sheet that came with the latch was in the very broken and incomprehensible English that you would normally receive when purchasing knock-off products on Amazon or Temu. Save yourself the trouble and buy OE or OEM.

2013 F10 550i BMW Door Lock Actuator Motor Front Left - Vemo
Our F10 550 Drivers side door soft close stopped working and eventually started making an awful grinding noise. We have used FCP for parts when the passenger side failed so this was an easy decision to work with FCP again. The product quality is definitely on par with factory parts. In fact, my wife mentioned that the door close much quieter than in the past. She doesn't know BMW, OEM or OE so suffice it to say she is not familiar with Vemo and I am fine with that as it help secure a place for me in her life, love ya Doodle! Install was a cinch but you may have some trouble with detaching the old pull cable actuator from the defective unit. Once it is off transferring it is super easy. I would absolutely buy Vemo again, a quality part for sure.
