I love Vaico filters, and the fuel filter in this kit is no exception. Always looks and feels high quality. However, the main large rubber seals included in the kit were unusable for me. They did not feel as thick as OEM and let to a no start condition after I finished up the job. Once I reinstalled everything however with the OEM main seal the car was able to fire right up, presumably as it was able to build pressure in the tank. After researching online, it seems a few others have experienced this. Perhaps I got a bad batch of rubber?
Worked great for my 07 Mini S. The job is a PITA relative to most older cars with a metal canister filter in-line, but it can be done by the average DIYer. There are helpful videos on YT. I also got an extra gasket, as others mentioned.
I'll also comment on the spare gasket - this is my first Mini resto project and nothing says fun like getting more new parts in the kit than you just took off.
If this is your first time doing this, do yourself a favor and watch someone do it online. It's not a hard job, but there's a few tricks that will make your life easier in the end. First, be prepared for the amount of dirty fuel that WILL fling when you twist the top off. Let's just say I'm glad I had the back interior panels and my reupholstered headliner still out of the car. Next time, just gonna drape a large shop rag over the whole thing. Then when you put it all back together, don't worry about where the 2nd gasket should have been, just 1 goes on the metal FIRST, then pull the lower filter housing up through the gasket (watch the level sender!), then screw the top in, lower back down, done.
Vaico fuel filters always seem like good quality, I put them in any car I can.
Great quality filter. Comes with a spare gasket, maybe for the Fuel Pump if you need it. I recommend marking the steel lock ring to know how much you need to tighten when putting it back together, same for the fuel pump if you're doing that too.
The filter fit was perfect and the seals were exact as the OEM factory.
Changing your fuel filter on a Mini Cooper S R53 is a stinky and not so fun of a job. Make it easy on yourself - buy this kit and watch Mod Mini on YouTube for the steps to do the job.
big improvement
The old filter and gas were black. It was definitely time for a replacement. Once you remove the white housing from the tank, you need to twist the top part to get it open. Everything else is pretty straightforward. Excellent fit.
Fits right hand drive car well, Comes with all gaskets. Be more careful than me getting the old one out - petrol and crap splatterd over roof liner! Twist and shout to get it out!!
