This anaerobic sealer is used on machine metal surfaces in place of a traditional paper or rubber gasket. Volvo uses this sealer for timing covers, oil pans, intermediate sections of the block and camshaft covers. 1.7floz is good for multiple applications depending on size of flange.

Fixed bent valves after a premature water pump seizure. Glad I ought the Volvo anaerobic sealer. Rolls on with a mini paint roller. Many miles on...leak free.

This isn't what I normally use for gasket makers, but it's what Volvo recommends. It works very well and gives you plenty of working time. Not bad at all!

If you want to do it right...
The OEM cam tower (valve cover) sealant you'll need if you remove the top cover.

Learned the hard way when I used an ordinary gasket sealant. Had to redo everything and use this instead.

Aenerobic Gasket Maker for Volvo
Recently did an oil pan drop on a 2004 S80 2.5T and used the Volvo OEM gasket maker. Looks like a small tube but plenty to do the entire job. I let it cure over night and no problems running it the next day. Run about 50 miles since and no leaks. Only downside is that it is a little pricey but that is likely an OEM issue.

This is a must have when putting the oil pan back on. My block is as dry as can be. Quality Volvo product.

Best Silicone ever, with this silicone job is easy, Volvo dont put a lot inside the tube but is just what you need if you doing a Oil Pan job or if you do Engine Head you will need also one, any job where you need this great silicone you will need one tube. Dont waste your money and time for some aftermarket stuff. You will never buy some similar silicone in Auto Parts store.

I have an Oil Pan, Cam Cover and Angle Gear I would like to reseal. My oil sump reseal kit came with the Permatex 51813, but I have seen more positive reviews on the OEM Volvo sealant and am considering the OEM Volvo sealant. Could you please tell me how many tubes of the OEM sealant would be required to seal the three listed parts. Do you (or FCP) have an opinion as to which sealant is superior and/or if the Permatex sealant is the best product for this application.

Volvo doesn't have a magic special formula that seals better or worse, this will perform the same as the Permatex branded Anaerobic sealant. Many prefer to pay the extra for Genuine Volvo for peace of mind, but if the Permatex branded sealant leaks it's most likely due to user error (it's easy to mess up with improper technique), as Permatex specializes in these types of applications. You may also consider Permatex 81182, which is designed specifically for sealing flanges that have metal that has saturated with gear oil, such as your angle gear. One tube would be enough for all.

Yes, one tube will be enough to seal the cam covers.

I believe your referring to the upper camshaft cover in which 1 tube will be enough to cover the needed area.
