Saab Engine Oil Pump - Genuine Saab 12637040

Product Information

An engine oil pump is a critical component of a vehicle’s lubrication system. Its main job is to circulate engine oil under pressure to moving parts such as the crankshaft, bearings, camshaft, and valve train. This reduces friction, cools components, and ensures proper engine performance and longevity.

Key functions:

• Lubrication – delivers oil to reduce wear on moving parts.
• Cooling – helps carry away excess heat from engine components.
• Hydraulic support – powers systems like hydraulic lifters and variable valve timing.

• Low oil pressure warning light – illuminated on the dashboard due to insufficient oil flow.
• Engine overheating – oil circulation failure increases friction and heat.
• Unusual engine noises – knocking, ticking, or grinding sounds from unlubricated parts.

Other Possible Signs

• Frequent or severe engine wear (scored bearings, worn camshaft).
• Oil pressure gauge reading abnormally low or fluctuating.
• Metal shavings in oil (from insufficient lubrication).
• Complete engine failure if the pump seizes or oil starvation occurs.

About Genuine Saab

The original parts used by Saab to build your car are available as replacement parts under the “Genuine Saab” brand. Manufactured under the direction of Saab, expect excellent quality and a premium price since these parts are exclusively available through the Saab Dealership network.

You may not realize this, but the parts that make up your Saab are not necessarily manufactured by Saab. No cause for concern, as Saab designs the part, hires a manufacturer, and ensures its quality to you. In fact, many of these manufacturers have been making parts for Saab for decades. In our industry these manufacturers are called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and these are often brands you recognize, including Lemforder, ZF, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Zimmermann, Siemens VDO, Corteco, and more. Don’t be surprised to open that Genuine Saab parts box and find an OEM branded part inside, simply with the addition of a Saab logo.

Be sure to keep an eye out for OE tags on our product pages to quickly identify parts coming direct from OE manufacturers. That extra bit of insight could save you some serious money while shopping! Refer to our OE Academy for further information regarding the OE/OEM tags throughout the site.
